Only 3 in 10 Canadians will make a New Years’ Resolution this year, and typically, 73% will eventually break them. So, we’ve put together a few ways that some of the more popular resolutions can be kept all within your West Coquitlam neighbourhood.
1.Stay Fit + Healthy
Often the most popular resolution made every January, we spoke to Sweat Lab owner and head trainer, Dan Ferrato, about how you can stay active throughout the year.
What advice can you give to someone who has made a New Years’ resolution to stay fit + healthy?
Grab yourself a workout buddy or join a group. It’s proven that social support is the key to sticking with a healthy lifestyle. Focus on one thing at a time. Far too often I see too many people try to go from 0-100. The key to getting or staying fit and healthy is to integrate small habits into your lifestyle and build on them daily. Introduce 1 day of activity, or an extra 5 minutes on your walk. Remember they pyramids were built 1 block at a time, and the same thing goes for your health and fitness.
What is your favourite part about personal training?
My favourite part about being a personal trainer is seeing clients achieve what they never thought they were capable of doing. Exercise has a way of bringing confidence into your life like nothing else I have experienced. And i believe helping others achieve what they never thought was possible will translate into them having more confidence in everything else in life.
Who are your typical clients?
Sweat Lab’s typical clients are those who want to or already have made health and fitness a part of their lifestyle. Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle, are a weekend warrior, or just want more energy to play with your kids after work.
What is your motto?
Our motto at Sweat Lab is “Helping others achieve the life changing effects of fitness”
2. Learn something new
Try new things like a cooking class at Eden West or Posh Pantry, or enroll in one of the classes offered at the local community centre (check out the 2017 Winter Program Guide for a list of available classes), they offer everything from Photography to Guitar Lessons.
Tip: Learn something new for free by signing up for a library card at the Coquitlam Public Library.
3. Spend more time with family + friends
Visit one of many great local restaurants for dinner, go window shopping at Coquitlam Centre, or take advantage of a sunny day by having a picnic in Cottonwood Park.
