In this industry insider feature, we are pleased to introduce you to Bantoo Minhas, Vice President of Construction at Intracorp. Bantoo oversees all construction aspects of Maywood on the Park. We sat down with him to chat about what goes into bringing this community to life.

  • What steps are involved with the creation of this community?

At Maywood on the Park, construction goes like this; The existing building is demolished and cleared from the site. Once the site is cleared, the parkade is excavated to 5 levels below grade. The next step involves the concrete and rebar construction which is brought up to 32 levels above the street level with windows being installed shortly thereafter. Finally, the interior finishes are applied to the concrete shell space. This includes items such as drywall, wall and floor tiles, cabinetry, and flooring.

  • What is unique about the construction at Maywood on the Park?

What’s rare is that the project fronts two major streets, McKay Ave and Silver Ave. This allows construction from both sides, which really helps project efficiency. It also helps speed up material deliveries which further results in less impact to surrounding residents. In addition, we have implemented a fully functional touchless entry system with enhanced air purification in the amenity spaces, which together provide a unique opportunity for a clean environment that is consistent with a mobile lifestyle.

  • What features are you most excited to see come to life as construction continues?

Without a doubt, the elevators. It is a tall building and it comes alive when the elevators are operational. It also represents a milestone for the project as we move from bringing things from outside hoists (attached all the way up the building) to a fully functional internal elevator system. This allows for greater efficiency in moving materials and people.

  • What is one element of this community that you think homeowners will love the most?

The convenience of having two major secured entrances into the building at street level from both McKay Ave and Silver Ave.  Also, with Metrotown Mall and the SkyTrain station steps away from your home, there are no limits to the availability of amenities and transportation to virtually anywhere.

  • What is your favourite local business in the Metrotown area?

The Bao Place just off Kingsway. It’s still possible to dine under $10 and enjoy a good meal.  You can get their bao buns individually or in an order of 6.

You can check out this delicious local restaurant here. They offer delivery through SkipTheDishes and UberEats.

  • What makes Maywood on the Park extraordinary?

Being close to the green space of Maywood Park is a real benefit for this community.  A lot of homes will get ‘forever’ park views – that is something that many urban projects can’t say.
