Take a journey back in time at Richmond’s London Heritage Farm. Idyllically positioned on the south arm of the Fraser River, the farmhouse and grounds date back to the 1890’s. The original property was part of a 200-acre farm, which included a general store, post office, and wharf, purchased by two young brothers from Ontario. Charles and William London were only 16 and 17 when they arrived alone in British Columbia, three years before buying their farm.
Over one hundred years later, the family farmhouse still stands and has been completely restored to resemble what life for the pioneers was like back then. With six rooms displaying authentic furnishings, clothing, and everyday articles dating from the 1880’s to 1930’s, you can get an immersive glimpse of the past – a very different existence from today.
Tour the Heritage Gardens styled like the English countryside, and see old farming equipment and the Spraggs Barn. Or stroll through the beautiful Memorial Rose Garden dedicated to the brothers and their families.
Stay in the past a little longer at afternoon or high tea in the Tea Room, a quaint room in the farmhouse that serves traditional English fare. Savour a selection of scones, finger sandwiches, and sweets with a comforting pot of tea – their London Lady Tea is a signature flavour.
A day spent at London Heritage Farm is equal parts educational and relaxing as you settle into a slower pace of life.
