“Preserving and enhancing the existing heritage trees on the property 44 East Ave demonstrates the importance of a design solution that presents a responsible, resilient and authentic vision of Austin living. The heritage trees represent a direct link to the history of the site as they physically define 44 East Ave’s connection to the lake, the trail and our urban landscape. “
- Daniel Woodroffe, Founder of dwg. Landscape Architect for 44 East Ave.
Here’s a look at the extraordinary measures being taken to ensure the safety and longevity of these two heritage trees:
- First and foremost, we mapped the roots and the canopies to guide the building placement to ensure no impact will occur with construction of the new tower.
- Careful logistics and staging have been taking place with Flintco regarding lay down, crane placement and site logistics.
- The trees will be mulched and watered during construction. Specific detailing has been created to reduce compaction under the canopies – detailing that includes porous paving (a hard surface that allows stormwater runoff to infiltrate into drainage layers and the underlying soils below), micro piers and elevated slabs.
- Any construction occurring under the canopy of the trees will utilize an airspade – a tool that cuts soil without damaging roots.
- Careful coordination between everyone working on the site is already underway: Flintco will coordinate these measures with dwg., our landscape architect, as well as a tree specialist.
Extraordinary homes. Extraordinarily built.
