Sure, the North Pole has the lock on being the most Christmassy place on earth, but it feels like quaint, little Steveston could be a serious contender. Block for block, this West Richmond neighbourhood by the sea has enough Christmas spirit for the whole region.
Here’s just a sampling of the seasonal local activities to pen into your calendar:
Winter Hayrides:
Hop on some bales of hay and warm up your best singing voice because this holiday sing-along is going on the road (slowly). The hayride starts in front of the Steveston Community Centre, travels past One Road and through the Village before heading back to Moncton Street. Snacks and hot chocolate are available with a small Christmas donation.
Wooden Ornament Decorating:
People of all ages are invited to the Britannia Shipyards to decorate their own ornaments. Happening every day from November 20th onward, be sure to pop by to participate in some of this holiday fun.
Songs in the Snow:
Join in the merriment of these performances as part of Steveston’s Winter in the Village. Running on December 8th and 15th, this free event brings together local choirs and community groups to sing festive songs and caroling.
So Much More: There are all sorts of Steveston events that go deep into December. Everything from winter concerts at the Britannia Shipyards Site and Famers Markets at the Cannery to Breakfasts With Santa and the Songs In the Snow Concert Series.
